AFC West: best and worst draft picks for every team in the division
By Brett Gering
San Diego Chargers
Best Pick: Denzel Perryman, ILB, Miami
San Diego desperately needed a running back, and Melvin Gordon fits the bill. However, they traded three picks in order to move up two spots, which is a hefty price tag.
Perryman, meanwhile, is going to be a familiar name in the AFC West for years to come. He brings a hard-nosed mentality that the Chargers have lacked in years prior, and he’s a downfield missile against the run.
Worst Pick: Craig Mager, Cornerback, Texas State
Mager is a talented but extremely raw project. He flashes the tangible traits of an NFL corner, but his technique and discipline need a few coats of polish.
With a few tweaks, he has the potential to become a regular contributor over time. However, Mager might’ve still been on the board in Round 4.
