However unlikely, the Chiefs could pursue Marcus Mariota

Tampa Bay Buccaneers – Pick: #1

Up until this week, the consensus has been that the Bucs would be taking Jameis Winston No. 1 overall. However, after the recent report from Ron Jaworski, many analysts have started to change their tune and saying that Mariota will be the top pick. Some are even citing “sources”… which tells me this isn’t going to happen. But TB still plays into this story because if one other team happens to believe it, then there is a good chance that the Bucs could receive an offer they can’t refuse.

Prediction: I’m not buying that Tampa Bay has decided to move on from Winston. This seems more like a smokescreen to tempt another team to make a pretty dumb move. The Bucs will end up taking Jameis Winston with the No. 1 pick.

Tennessee Titans – Pick: #2

I don’t see a lot of scenarios in which the Titans decide to keep the pick and take Mariota. Even if they do keep the pick, there is still the chance they take Leonard Williams or another highly regarded prospect instead. However, the Titans have put themselves into a position where taking Mariota makes sense. If the asking price isn’t to their liking, they could decide to draft him.

Prediction: There is too much to be gained by trading out of this spot, and the Titans have a lot of issues to address.  They won’t be taking Mariota.

Oakland Raiders – Pick: #4

As surprising as this may seem, there are those that are calling for the Raiders to give up on Derek Carr and take Mariota. Personally, I think this is a ridiculous notion, and I would have to think that Reggie McKenzie agrees. However, the Raiders are still owned by Mark Davis who has proven to be every bit as impetuous as his father.

Davis is being advised by the same inner circle that helped his father drive the franchise into the ground. So Mariota remains in play for no other reason than…it’s the Raiders.

Prediction: While it would be the most Raiders thing in the world to do, I don’t think they will give up on Derek Carr. Not trading up for Mariota would be a victory for Reggie McKenzie simply because he prevented his owner from doing something stupid.

Washington Redskins – Pick: #5

It is amazing to think that the Redskins are in almost the exact situation that they were in back in 2012 when they traded up from No. 6 overall for Robert Griffin III. RGIII has been a mess in Washington, and there may finally be a sense that it is just time to move on.

Adding to this problem is the fact that Kirk Cousins has shown some major concerns in his game as well. With neither player being taken by the current regime, a new quarterback could very well be in play. The Redskins themselves have already stated that they are interested in Marcus Mariota.

Prediction: The Skins will be one of the final teams in the running for Mariota. I think they are willing to trade up, but will balk when they see the price tag approaching what they once paid for RGIII.
