Kansas City Chiefs Defeat New York Jets, 24-10

Anthony Fasano caught a touchdown pass while on his butt, Travis Kelce did neat Travis Kelce things, and we got to see Matt Simms attempt to play quarterback. All of this in what appeared to be a scrimmage victory over the New York Jets, 24-10.

My biggest complaint about this game is that the Chiefs couldn’t kick one more lousy field goal so as to make me look like a genius for picking a 27-10 final score. But nooooooo, we couldn’t do that, could we?

What exactly is there to take away from this game, aside from the fact the Jets are a horrifically bad team and the Chiefs played with about as much enthusiasm as Mitch McConnell? Kansas City didn’t exert themselves too much, appear to be mostly healthy, and got an easy win. Just what the doctor ordered.

Jamaal Charles rushed for 78 yards on 20 carries and scored a touchdown. Travis Kelce was the leading receiver with 67 yards and a touchdown. Alex Smith threw for 199 yards and two touchdowns while completing two-thirds of his passes. Nothing sexy, but it got the job done.

The Chiefs now sit at 5-3 and in second place in the AFC West after the San Diego Chargers got clobbered by the Miami Dolphins. They will also leave the weekend as owners of one of the two wild-card spots in the AFC. Beat the Buffalo Bills next week, who are also 5-3, and the Chiefs will be in really good shape heading into the second half of the season.

Finally, someone pay Justin Houston, please.
