Until Wednesday night, the Kansas City Royals were the MLB’s Cinderella story, which was fitting, because for nearly 30 years, Kauffman Stadium was the sport’s most attractive eyesore.

Kansas City’s ballpark is the arguably the most stunning in the majors. However, throughout said stretch, it also housed some of the ugliest play. Buying a ticket was like touring a mansion, climbing the attic ladder and hearing “Rocky…Road?”

Then, with little warning, a clubhouse full of national no-names began running circles around the competition, and 29 years of reruns stopped.

Apparently, “That’s what speed do.”
