Happy Red Friday to one and to all!! On this glorious day I decided it might be a good idea to take a look at just how our beloved Chiefs match up against the 49er’s and what the Chiefs need to do to take down Kaepernick and company by taking a look at some key players from each side of the ball and what their roles will be this Sunday.
ALEX SMITH
Most of us know that the Chiefs traded the Niners for Smith two years ago. This is Smith’s first homecoming in San Francisco since that trade. I’m not making any promises but more often than not when an NFL player returns to face his former team he brings his A-game. Especially when the team kind of just abandoned them like a stray puppy (don’t worry Alex, we appreciate you more than they ever did).
Just this year two players come to mind. Steve Smith and DeSean Jackson. Steve Smith had his game against the panthers last week and wound up hauling in 7 catches for 139 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Jackson had his game against the Eagles a couple weeks again and had 5 catches for 117 yards and a touchdown. Both posted monster numbers and this is a trend that has been seen many times in the NFL.
Alex Smith’s role in the game this Sunday will be to seek vengeance on his former team. The Niners rank first in the league in turnovers so if Smith is his usual self and doesn’t turn the ball over then that would be nice. I’m expecting Smith to pass for about 250 yards and a pair of touchdowns and also to keep the turnovers to a minimum.
The only thing is WE NEED TO PROTECT OUR QUARTERBACK. Smith has been sacked a grand total of thirteen times, second most in the NFL. That’s a ridiculous number heading into week five. Granted we have a young offensive line but somebody in the line needs to start pulling their 300 pounds in weight. Jump up in the air and then fall on the ground, do something for god’s sake.
