We are finally going to see De’Anthony Thomas in a Kansas City Chiefs uniform on a regular season Sunday. Get giddy, folks.
Thomas, who is officially listed as probable, received the green light from Andy Reid today after practice to play in Sunday’s game against the San Francisco 49ers. Reid of course did it with the flair we’ve all come to know and love.
"“De’Anthony, he’s good to go. I don’t know what we’re listing him as. I’m Andy Reid saying he’s good to go. How’s that?”"
That’s works for me, Coach Reid.
How much Thomas will be used on Sunday is still up in the air. Before his injury Thomas was the primary punt returner and participated in a handful of snaps with the first team offense. Since this is Thomas’ first game in over a month and he is coming off of a hamstring injury one would think he wouldn’t see to many snaps in his first game. But with that said, if Thomas is 100-percent healthy then maybe it won’t be too much of a surprise if he sees 20 snaps on offense and handles punt return duties.

One reason to think that is because Donnie Avery is out for the game after having surgery on his core muscles that he tore during Monday night’s win over the New England Patriots. Typically the recovery time for this is four weeks but Avery will have had three full weeks of recovery time (if you include this week) before the Chiefs game against the San Diego Chargers after the bye week. With Avery out the Chiefs have some edge speed they need to replace in the passing game. A.J. Jenkins, a former 49ers first round draft pick, will play in Avery’s place.
Eric Berry will also be out for the Chiefs on Sunday as he continues to recover from a high ankle sprain. Reid said he’s getting better but would not put a timetable on his return. One would hope he would be good to go after the bye week.
Also dealing with an injury is Marcus Cooper, who has been limited in practice Thursday and Friday with a knee injury. The extent of the injury is unknown but he is listed as questionable on the Chiefs injury report. Aside from Avery and Berry, Cooper is the only player listed as questionable or worse.
San Francisco has six players listed as questionable for Sunday, including tackle Anthony Davis, cornerback Tramaine Brock, tight end Vernon Davis, and safety Eric Reid. Anthony Davis, Vernon Davis, and Brock did not practice all week while Reid was limited in practice all week.
Running back Frank Gore, who is listed as probable after dealing with some back issues, participated in full at practice all three days this week.
