Yikes.
Penalties, missed tackles, and general lack awareness was a huge problem for the Chiefs right from the opening kickoff.
Jarvis Landry trucked Chris Owens on the opening kickoff to give the Dolphins excellent field position to start the game and then never looked back. He averaged 35.8 yards per kick return with about 1,000,000 yards coming on yards after contact (estimated). Landry also had a 74 yard return that turned into three points for the Dolphins.
Between the kickoff returns, fumble by Smith, and the safety, the Dolphins scored 12 of their 15 points. Eliminate those simple mistakes and the Chiefs would have absolutely destroyed in the Dolphins on Sunday.
Good news on this front is that Dustin Colquitt is still freaking good. He averaged 51 yards per punt and was able to pin the Dolphins inside the 20 twice. He also had a critical 64 yard punt that flipped the field after the Chiefs were pinned down deep in Miami territory.
