Kansas City Chiefs Fall To Tennessee Titans, 26-10

Devastating.

Injuries, curious play calling, sloppy play, and turnovers led to a disastrous opening of the season for the Chiefs, who fell to the Titans 26-10. Jake Locker threw two touchdowns passes and Jason McCourty intercepted two passes for the Titans in the victory. Former Chiefs kicker Ryan Succop made four field goals from 36, 31, 46, and 47 yards.

Worse news for the Chiefs comes on the injury front. Derrick Johnson and Mike DeVito each suffered achilles tendon injuries, and reports say Johnson will miss the rest of the season as a result. One would assume DeVito will be right behind him when it comes to missing the rest of the season. In addition to those two injuries, offensive lineman Jeff Allen was knocked out of the game with an elbow injury.

Kansas City was simply sloppy aside from the injuries. The Chiefs completed only 19 of 35 passes and turned the ball over three times. Jamaal Charles, arguably the NFL’s best running back, touched the ball only 11 times. Nothing the Chiefs did schematically or in terms of execution was good today. Simply everything that could go wrong did go wrong.

The Chiefs will travel to Denver next Sunday to take on Peyton Manning and the Broncos. KC has a lot to work on if they don’t want to get blown out of the water.
