Lost a spot: RT Donald Stephenson

This may seem like an overreaction for a preseason game, but there are other factors involved here. First, Stephenson got himself suspended for a quarter of this season when this could have been his chance to establish himself as a solid starter in this league. Second, I thought Jeff Allen actually played pretty well on extreme short notice filling in for Stephenson against Minnesota last week. Allen played tackle in college, so this may turn out to be a better overall spot for him on the roster. Add to that Stephenson’s awful game last night. WR Dwayne Bowe responded to the news of his one-game suspension in the best way possible — he played lights out and showed his team how much they need him. What did Stephenson do? He allowed an early sack at the KC 3 yard-line, and then committed two penalties including one that eliminated a 3rd-down conversion.

After the second untimely penalty the cameras showed him smiling and that just rubbed me the wrong way. You, sir, got nothing to be smiling about.

If a quality tackle ends up on the waiver wire, I have a feeling Stephenson will be walking.
