Safeties

  1. Eric Berry
  2. Husain Abdullah
  3. Daniel Sorensen
  4. Malcolm Bronson

It would appear that safety is the best position group for an undrafted player to stick in Kansas City. I expect both Sorensen and Bronson to make this team. Both players have gotten extensive reps throughout the preseason and with them they’ve been able to deliver. Sorensen’s been the beneficiary of Berry’s absence and has logged a number of snaps with the first team defense. Bronson turned in a pick-6 in the preseason opener with the Cincinnati Bengals.

Specialists

  1. (K) Cairo Santos
  2. (P) Dustin Colquitt
  3. (LS) Thomas Gafford

Cairo Santos and Ryan Succop appear to be evenly matched. The kicking competition will continue into Thursday night’s preseason finale with Green Bay. One missed opportunity could mean the difference between gainful employment in Kansas City and a trip to either the unemployment line or another NFL team. There’s an outside chance that a dead heat could end in one of them being traded. Miami may have a need for a kicker with Caleb Sturgis hurt. In the event that no such trade takes place, this is still a position where the Chiefs can afford to take a chance on an inexperienced player. Cutting Succop gives the Chiefs about $1 million of cap relief.

Practice Squad

  1. (RB) Charcandrick West
  2. (WR) Darryl Surgent
  3. (WR) Mark Harrison
  4. (OT) Laurent Duvernay-Tardif
  5. (OT) Ryan McKee
  6. (LB) Devan Walker
  7. (CB) Kevin Rutland
  8. (CB) Damond Smith

John Dorsey will keep a keen eye on cuts around the league. There’s a good chance he’ll bring a number of players in over the next 8-10 days. For now, this is my best guess as to who’ll wind up playing for the Chiefs this season. I’ve certainly been wrong before, but I’m fairly confident in this prediction.

Do you think Kansas City will give Tyler Bray another year to prove his worth to the organization? Has Aaron Murray already shown more upside than Bray? Has Cyrus Gray done enough offensively and on special teams to warrant the Chiefs carrying four halfbacks? Here’s your chance to weigh in and name your own 53-man roster. Until next time, Addicts!
