Chiefs Cut Weston Dressler, Eight Others
By Ben Nielsen
The Chiefs have announced the release of nine more players. They are as follows:
Wide receivers Weston Dressler, Jarrell Jackson, Darryl Surgent and Deon Anthony; Offensive lineman Otis Hudson; Defensive backs Jerron McMillian, Brandon Jones; Defensive linemen Jairus Campbell and Jermell Cudjo.
This goes in tandem with the two cuts from yesterday, tight end Adam Schiltz and cornerback Vernon Kearney.
Kansas City also announced they have moved Sanders Commings to the season-ending injured reserved list. Players on the injured reserve do not count against the roster so that means a roster spot has opened up for the Chiefs, who still need to make decisions on three more players before they get to the NFL-required 75-man roster by Tuesday.
Dressler’s release is the biggest name of the bunch. There was some hope Dressler could come in and compete to play in the slot role that was left open by Dexter McCluster’s departure in free agency. Unfortunately Dressler had a tough time getting on the field and was unable to take advantage of opportunities when players like Junior Hemingway and A.J. Jenkins went down with hamstring injuries.
Here’s hoping Dressler finds an opportunity elsewhere.
