TRADES?

Peter King suggested back in week one of the preseason one of Ryan Succop and Cairo Santos was on the trade block along with a reserve tight end. One would assume the reserve tight end King is speaking of is Richard Gordon.

The most likely deal to happen would be one of the kickers getting dealt. Making a decision on the kicker now would save a roster spot for someone like Weston Dressler or another fringe player the Chiefs want to get one more extended look at. That may be more valuable to the Chiefs than seeing Santos or Succop kick one more field goal.

One team who could use a kicker is the Miami Dolphins, who have been ravaged by injuries and poor performance at the position. There could also be a couple other teams that are looking upgrade from their current situation like the Chicago Bears or Cleveland Browns.

Cairo Santos has probably done enough to win this job for the Chiefs. What has he done in the preseason or practice that suggests he cannot handle regular kicking duties? Plus, the Chiefs need the cap room for 2015 and 2016 that Succop occupies. It is clear the Chiefs are going to have to spend a lot of money to try and keep Alex Smith and Justin Houston in addition to the fact that they need to do what they can to upgrade spots in the secondary and on the offensive line. If Santos can do the job just as well as Succop then why spend the extra money for the same overall production?
