TOUGH CALLS

Again, wide receiver is going to be a place where some tough decisions are going to have to be made. It would seem the Chiefs would want to spend the final tune up before the regular season on getting as many reps as possible for Albert Wilson, Junior Hemingway, Kyle Williams, A.J. Jenkins, and Frankie Hammond. This leaves players like Weston Dressler and Mark Harrison in a tough spot. Could they be gone by Tuesday?

Part of the issue here is if the Chiefs want to try and keep someone like Harrison on the practice squad. He may make it to the final weekend in a move to try to slip him through waivers.

The secondary could also see some moves this week. Malcolm Bronson and Jerron McMillian have seen a lot of time this preseason but neither has been able to crack time with the first string. With injuries to the defensive line and linebacker, the Chiefs may choose to give Ron Parker, Phillip Gaines, and Daniel Sorensen as many reps as possible in the final game of the preseason. Plus, the Chiefs have newly acquired Kelcie McCray who they need to take a look at. This would put guys like Bronson and McMillian in jeopardy.

Finally, is this the week Tyler Bray gets his walking papers? Bray hasn’t done enough in his time on the field to justify keeping him on the roster. His arm talent is tremendous but his decision making hasn’t progressed enough to feel comfortable with him in a backup situation. Aaron Murray is on the roster as a promising young player and may fit what Andy Reid likes to do on offense better than Bray. And does this team looking like one that can afford to waste an extra roster post on a fourth quarterback?

With the new rules, the Chiefs may be able to slip Bray through the roster and add him to the practice squad in a few weeks if Kansas City still likes some of what they see from him. But at this stage it is clear Bray is the odd man out of the quarterback competition.
