RUNNING BACKS
Jamaal Charles
Knile Davis
Cyrus Gray
De’Anthony Thomas
Anthony Sherman
Cut: Joe McKnight
Gray seems to be making a tremendous case to keep his spot on the team. Not only is he a valuable piece on special teams and has been participating with the first string, he seems to have improved as a ball carrier as well. His performance as a running back against Cincinnati in the first preseason game was impressive – even if it was against third and fourth stringers – and he’s made some moves in practice that have caught the attention of reporters and coaches.
Throw into the mix that Thomas has been spending some time working on his wide receiver skills. If Thomas is something of an offensive specialist and the Chiefs want to keep three true backs then Gray has done the most to be that third back. And besides, someone has to open up holes for Thomas to run through on kick and punt returns. It may as well be Gray.
