2. Chiefs Are Creating An Edge

This story is from Adam Teicher’s views on today’s practice:

Sorensen had made a good play on the ball and appeared to have the interception before Fasano pulled the ball away. Fasano then punctuated the play by spiking the ball at Sorensen’s feet. “Fasano is great,’’ offensive coordinator Doug Pederson said. “He’s an excitable guy and loves to compete and anytime he can make a play . . . you love to see that from the guys.’’

Andy Reid has talked a lot about ‘juice’ and finding ‘energy guys’ during camp. Chris Owens is one guy on defense who seems to bring the ‘juice’ quality, and Fasano appears to have a little edge to him as well.

Finding guys with a lot of energy who can add some character to the team on the field is something that has been difficult for the Chiefs over the last few seasons. The Chiefs have had a ton of good locker room guys and good people, but they seem to lack the sort of ‘fire’ players on the field who can create an edge and give the team some swagger. Jamaal Charles is probably the closest person the Chiefs have to some a player who plays with a swagger. Eric Berry is close to that level, too.

It is interesting to me the way Reid is allowing some of this edge to develop during camp. Mark Harrison threw a ball at Sean Smith’s face after making a big catch, Owens tried to pick a fight with Rodney Hudson, and now this Fasano story. The Chiefs response to it? They love it. I’m curious to see how all of this plays out.
