We are so close to real life football at Arrowhead Stadium. The Chiefs have just one more practice, Monday at 8:15 a.m., before they take two days off to prepare for their preseason opener against the Cincinnati Bengals. Almost there, everyone.

Here are a few thoughts from today’s practice, which was held indoors because of rain.

1. Eric Berry and Marcus Cooper Return

So much for giving Eric Berry some extra rest. A day after telling the media he was going to take his time with Berry, Andy Reid green lit the return of Berry to practice. How much of that was because the practice was indoors, I don’t know, but Berry was out there running drills and participating in practice, sore heel and all.

Marcus Cooper also came back for the Chiefs after leaving practice early yesterday with a hamstring injury. The return of both Berry and Cooper are obviously positive signs, but one would hope neither plays in the preseason opener against Cincinnati. Kansas City cannot afford to lose their best corner and their best safety because of a preseason game. Taking it easy on both of them would be the best and safest route.
