A Justin Houston Sighting
By Ben Nielsen
We have a Justin Houston sighting, and it is impressive.
Houston tweeted this video out of him working out, declaring he benching 440 pounds and is at playing weight. Well, at least that’s what I assume “#440” and “#playweight” means. Here’s the video he sent out.
Yeah, so I can totally do that. No problem. …
There is always a fear with players who hold out that they fall into a pattern that keeps them out of shape. While Houston certainly won’t be in “football shape” when he returns from his extended absence, he at least won’t be out of physical shape. This, one would hope, would mean good things for him to be able to get back into the swing of things on the playing field once he returns.
There is still no update on Houston’s contract situation but that is no surprise. One would assume that any deal that gets done will happen as a sort of “11th hour” sort of situation. Either he’ll agree to a deal shortly before camp starts or within the first week of camp. This at least is the typical window for these sorts of things.
Certainly there is always the chance this turns into an extended contract dispute, but one would think that each party would be highly motivated to get something done as soon as possible. Houston isn’t going anywhere – whether because he is franchised or because he signs an extension – because the Chiefs absolutely need him beyond 2014. The Chiefs desire to keep him and Houston’s desire to get paid as soon as possible will hopefully be enough to keep this from lasting too long.
Until then, it appears Houston will be in beast mode at the gym.
