The Seventh Round of the AFC West Draft

Raiders: CB T.J. Carrie

Raiders: DE Shelbie Harris

Raiders: CB Jon Dowling

Chiefs: a prior trade with Dallas

Chargers: WR Tevin Reese

Broncos: OLB Corey Nelson

Corey Nelson was likely drafted to play special teams. His 4.63 40 time isn’t bad and his Oklahoma experience is solid but he’s probably not going to see the field this year or next.

The Raiders drafted Travis (T.J.) Carrie for his potential. He’s coming off a knee injury. 6-3, 200 pound CB Jon Dowling is going to sit and learn behind Charles Woodson but he looks like he has promise. He transferred from Florida to Western Kentucky where he was a top playmaker for the team in 2012. DE Shelbie Harris is a 6-2, 285 lb long shot.

WR Tevin Reese from Baylor runs a 4.41 40 but plays faster than that. He can be considered a deep threat when he’s not busy expressing his fragility. He broke his wrist in November and although he is 6-0 he only weighs 163. However, he gained over 3,200 yards in a Baylor uniform which is nothing to sneeze at.

When you look back at how the Chiefs did in each round you’d have to say they won this race. They won three out of the 7 rounds and were second every other round. The Oakland Raiders did well in this draft too, especially in the early rounds, but they have much further to go to come close to the division leading Broncos. After all is said and done I’d rank the outcome of the AFC West Draft as follows:

1. Kansas City Chiefs

2. Oakland Raiders

3. San Diego Chargers

4. Denver Broncos
