The Canadian is in the fold.
Laurent Tardif announced on Twitter he is officially a Chief after signing a contract. Here is where we get that crazy idea.
Tardif signs a day after being selected 19th overall in Canadian Football League draft. He was expected to be the number one overall pick if he chose to bypass the NFL. It would appear he has chosen not to do that.
Over the Cap estimates Tardif contract to be worth slightly more than $2.3 million with a signing bonus around $100,300. The cap hit that will come in 2014 will be a very small $445,075 so keeping him on the roster while he develops won’t hurt the Chiefs cap situation.
People seem to be very high on Tardif’s potential in the NFL, predicting he’ll be the starting right tackle opposite of Eric Fisher in the next year or two. He’s noted for his athleticism and as being a mauler, and for his intelligence on the field and off the field (he is/was a medical student). If the Chiefs can walk away from this draft with two starting offensive lineman in the sixth round – Zach Fulton and Tardif – then one has to consider this draft a very good one.
Rookie mini-camp starts next week on May 24.
