Just ahead of the NFL announcing the 2014 NFL schedule, Adam Teicher of ESPN says dates have been set for the Chiefs four preseason games. The schedule is as such:

Week 1: Thursday, August 7 vs. Cincinnati Bengals

Week 2: Sunday, August 17 at Carolina Panthers

Week 3: Saturday, August 23 vs. Minnesota Vikings

Week 4: Thursday, August 28 at Green Bay Packers

Teicher notes the third game has some special meaning for the Chiefs and Matt Cassel:

"The third game on the preseason schedule is usually the featured contest. That is the one in which the starters generally play the longest, so Chiefs fans will be treated to the best that exhibition football has to offer when the Vikings come to Arrowhead. If he’s still Minnesota’s regular quarterback by then, Matt Cassel will start in Kansas City that night for the first time since being benched at halftime of the Chiefs’ 28-6 loss to Cincinnati on Nov. 18, 2012."

Assuming the August 7 date is correct for the Chiefs first preseason game then the earliest the Chiefs could start training camp would be July 23. This is convenient as it is my birthday (30th, yikes) so it would help all of you remember to buy me a gift – preferably alcohol.

So mark your calendars: unless changes are made the Chiefs are exactly three months away from opening up training camp.
