Kansas City Chiefs free agent Quintin Demps has signed with the New York Giants.
This leaves Kyle Williams and Kendrick Lewis as the remaining unsigned Chiefs free agents.
Demps did an excellent job as a kickoff return man for the Chiefs, ranking second in the NFL in kick return grade according to Pro Football Focus. Demps averaged 30.1 yards per kick return and took a kick back for a touchdown against Washington in week 13.
His performance as a safety wasn’t quite as stellar although he did intercept four passes as a rotational player.
Losing Demps was not unexpected but it does compound the situation with Emmanuel Sanders. Sanders is a solid return man in addition to being a good receiver. Kansas City will either now rely on Knile Davis to return kicks or look for another option via free agency or the draft.
On defense Demps is replaceable. His spot on the roster may end up being consumed by a draft pick in May. The Chiefs don’t really lose much with him no longer being in the secondary.
