A whole bunch of things just went down in the rumor and free agency world so lets take a quick look at things related to the Chiefs. Let’s begin with this tweet from Ben Volin.
Jermichael Finley suffered a very serious injury last season that left him partially paralyzed for a short period of time. He wrote an eerie yet excellent piece for MMQB about the experience. Finley is not planning on giving up football because of the injury, however, and is still looking to sign with a team.
Kansas City may be in the market for a third tight end behind Anthony Fasano and Travis Kelce, but both of them dealt with injury issues all of last season. Would adding Finley, who is coming off such a devastating injury, be a good idea? It wouldn’t seem to be, but it wouldn’t be too much of a surprise if Finley got a late look from the Chiefs if he is unsigned by the time training camp roles around.
DARREN SPROLES CUT BY SAINTS
Kansas City local and Kansas State graduate Darren Sproles will be released today, according to Ian Rapoport.
There is an obvious fit for Sproles as both a local guy and a potential replacement for Dexter McCluster. Sproles is a smart player who lined up just about everywhere for the Saints in his time in New Orleans. The questions would be whether or not he would be a cheaper option than McCluster and how much does he have left in the tank?
Assuming Sproles is healthy and has a few more good years left in him, Andy Reid would have a field day matching up Sproles and Jamaal Charles on the same field. Could you imagine both of them in the backfield at the same time? The possibilities are almost endless. Whether or not it would be the wisest way to spend the Chiefs’ remaining cap space may not be quite as pretty of a fantasy, however.
BRANDEN ALBERT TO ARIZONA?
Darnell Dockett believes Branden Albert is about to sign with the Arizona Cardinals. He Tweeted out his excitement about the prospect earlier today.
Interestingly, Dockett has since deleted the tweet but has left these two up.
There is something to Dockett’s tweet, however. Arrowhead Pride reminded everyone of this exchange involving Sean Smith from last off-season. Is it a lock Albert ends up in Arizona? No, but it wouldn’t and shouldn’t be a surprise if he does.
