This signing was one of the highlights of last off season. Dorsey hit a home-run with bringing Bray to Kansas City, especially when it was originally reported he’d be signing with the Miami Dolphins. Originally scouted as a second to third-round talent, Bray fell all the way out of the draft due to preceived “maturity issues.” This stemmed from various comments made at the NFL Combine as well as alleged reports of misconduct in the Tennessee locker room.
However, when Bray beat out the incumbent third-stringer Ricky Stanzi in last year’s training camp, Chiefs fans got to see how high on this rookie Andy Reid really was. Reid is known around the league a guy who can get the best out of quarterbacks with an attitude — see McNabb, Donovan and Vick, Michael for evidence — but by all accounts, Bray was more than a project. However, as our own co-editor Ben Nielsen passed on to you last week, Reid is still very high on Bray, going so far as to drop this quote about the young QB:
"“He didn’t get picked probably where he wanted to get picked, and he’s worked through all of that. He’s been asked a lot of questions—that comes with the territory there. And he’s handled that the right way,’’ Reid said. “He’s handled it like a man— like a mature man— not like a young boy. I mean, he’s really handled himself the right way."
Could Bray be the Chiefs QB of the future? I guess we’ll have to wait and see.
