Sammy Watkins – 6’1 200lbs – Clemson

Sammy Watkins has walked an interesting path to get to this point. Watkins’ freshman season in 2011 was one of the most impressive I’ve seen for a freshman receiver. Watkins hauled in 82 receptions for 1, 219 yards and 12 touchdowns, but his sophomore year is a different story. Watkins had a drug arrest in May which resulted in him being suspended the first two games of 2012 and never seemed to be able to get his feet under him afterwards. Thankfully for Tajh Boyd, Boyd had DeAndre Hopkins on the other side of the field to pick up the slack. In 2012, Watkins caught 57 passes for 708 yards and three touchdowns. This year is looking up for Watkins though. So far he has 25 receptions for 355 yards and two touchdowns with more than half the season still to go. He is extremely explosive and has the quick twitch speed general managers covet. He could very well be the first wide receiver off the board with a good showing at the combine. That is, unless the next player on my list decides to come out.
