Danny Parkins of 610 Sports Radio KCSP has reported that Dexter McCluster is unhappy with his role with the Kansas City Chiefs. This really surprised me when I saw this tweet come up on my feed. Dexter McCluster is one of the more versatile players on the Chiefs offense and also fits in really well with Andy Reid’s west coast style offense. He should flourish in his role. That’s why I’m confused. He also had a really nice punt return for 55 yards against the New Orleans Saints in the Chiefs first preseason game.
The only thing I can think of is that Dexter is not getting many reps in these preseason games. McCluster has been virtually nonexistent in the Chiefs offense this preseason. He hasn’t gotten one carry and has only recorded two receptions for 21 yards. I personally am a fan of McCluster’s. I think he has a lot of potential. We saw some of that his rookie year in 2010 when he returned a punt 92 yards against the Chargers. He also had some nice receptions that year as well. My only issue with McCluster is that his ball security has come into question at times.
My rapid reaction to McCluster being upset is one of minor irritation. He has been a favorite player in Kansas City. I spoke to him a little bit at training camp and he seems to be a really nice guy. However, there is no room for whiners on this 2013 Kansas City Chiefs team. McCluster needs to find a role that makes him happy or he needs to suck it up. Either way, I do not think the Chiefs should trade him or cut him. There is also a good chance that this could be a rumor. McCluster just tweeted, “‘Believe none of what you HEAR and only half of what you SEE!” Too blessed and humble for nonsense! DMc Go Chiefs!’ I personally think that this is somewhat of a rumor. I think McCluster loves it here in Kansas City and doesn’t want to go anywhere.
