Watch your back, Christian Ponder.

Former Kansas City Chiefs QB Matt Cassel has signed with the Minnesota Vikings, according to multiple reports.

I am not sure who had this first but I am giving credit to Jay Glazer because ESPN never does it.

This is a great move for Cassel. Ponder has anything but a stranglehold on the starting position in Minnesota. While the youngster may have the edge, Cassel could certainly find himself in a starting role again should Ponder struggle.

Remember, the Vikings were a playoff team last season even with ho-hum play from Ponder. Then, in the playoffs, Ponder was out with an injury and the Vikings’ were SOL because they didn’t have a viable backup option.

Cassel, for all his faults, is certainly a viable backup option. The Vikings have a strong running game, which is exactly what Cassel needs to flourish.

It will be interesting to see how Cassel plays in another system. We certainly wish him all the best in Minnesota…unless of course the Chiefs and Vikings play in the Super Bowl next season.

Actually, I am going to go put some money on that right now.
