Amini Silatolu Works Out For Chiefs
The Kansas City Chiefs have held a private workout with Midwestern State offensive guard Amini Silatolu according to Aaron Wilson of Scout.com.
Silatolu has also worked out for the Cincinnati Bengals, Dallas Cowboys, St. Louis Rams, Pittsburgh Steelers, Detroit Lions, Cleveland Browns, Indianapolis Colts and the Carolina Panthers and has drawn interest from the San Francisco 49ers, Baltimore Ravens, San Diego Chargers, New England Patriots, New York Giants, Washington Redskins and the Houston Texans.
So in short, everyone is interested in him.
According to NFl Draft Scout, Silatolu is the third best guard in the draft and is projected to go in the third round.
I know folks are high on David DeCastro and I am as well but taking a guard in the second round seems a lot more like Scott Pioli’s style to me. Just as he drafted Rodney Hudson in the second round last year and Jon Asamoah in the third round in 2010, Pioli seems to like the value of interior lineman after the first round. That isn’t to say he won’t snag DeCastro but if Pioli believes Ryan Lilja can start for another year or two, he might be tempted to grab a guy like Silatolu in the second so he can sit him for a year or so.
Plugging in DeCastro on KC’s line would make the interior fairly green. Asamoah, Hudson and DeCastro would have a grand total of one year of starting experience between them. Hudson got on the field for a few snaps last year but at guard, not center, where he is projected to start this year.
The more I think about it the more I could see Pioli shying away from going offensive line in the first round. He may want to get a player he feels more comfortable plugging in right away.
The question is, who is that player?
