Chiefs Interested In WR Jerricho Cotchery
According to Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News, the Kansas City Chiefs are interested in free agent WR Jerricho Cotchery. The New York Jets are also apparently interesting in bringing him back.
This makes a lot of sense. The Chiefs are pretty well set at receiver with Dwayne Bowe, Steve Breason and Jonathan Baldwin. They could use a fourth receiver/backup type of player and the veteran Cotchery would be a safe addition. He could also step in and produce should someone fall to injury.
It is exciting to see the Chiefs looking to add quality depth again instead of bums like Sabby Piscitelli. Terrance Copper was great on special teams but was pretty much useless in the passing game. The Chiefs have reached a point where most of their starting positions are filled and so now adding depth to carry them through a grueling NFL season is the next step.
Just think about how much better the running back group is with the addition of Hillis. KC went from Charles, Jones, Battle and McCluster to Charles, Hillis and McCluster. That is one less guy and it still looks way better!
Even if KC can’t get Cotchery, looking for a veteran WR is a smart move. Then they can perhaps add one younger receiver through the draft or as a project/undrafted free agent.
