There have been wide reports that free agent CB Stanford Routt has signed with the Kansas City Chiefs.
Now it is official.
Josh Looney of KCChiefs.com has announced via Twitter that the team has officially announced the deal.
Routt will likely replace CB Brandon Carr who is set to be an unrestricted free agent on March 13. For weeks fans have been speculating on whether or not the team would keep Carr and their other big name free agent-to-be Dwayne Bowe.
It now appears that Bowe is the team’s leading candidate to receive the franchise tag should a deal not be worked out before the start of free agency.
Routt’s deal is reportedly for three years and is worth around $20 million.
Looney also tweeted some interesting info from what will likely eventually be in the team’s press release:
"Romeo Crennel says he likes Routt’s proven record of success and familiarity with both the #Chiefs and the AFC West"
"Scott Pioli says the #Chiefs are looking to create more competition at all positions."
