The Kansas City Chiefs have been in first place in the AFC West all season long and with a little luck, they could clinch the division championship this weekend.
The Chiefs stand at 9-5 and hold a 1-game lead over the San Diego Chargers (8-6) and a two game lead over the Oakland Raiders (7-7).
The easiest way for the Chiefs to clinch the division is to win their final two games and finish 11-5, however they can wrap things up this weekend.
It starts with a victory. If Kansas City defeats the Tennessee Titans, they will move to 10-5. A Chiefs victory will officially eliminate the Oakland Raiders, who even if they win Sunday, would be two games back with only one game to play.
That would leave the San Diego Chargers as the lone remaining challengers for the division title. The Chargers will be in Cincinnati Sunday. The Bengals, while in the midst of a disappointing season are still dangerous and will be playing at home. If the Chargers fall to the Bengals, they will drop to 8-7 and will have no way to catch the 10-6 Chiefs.
The Chargers are only 2-4 on the road this season and they will be playing in chilly Cincinnati. The early weather forecast says it will be around 27 degrees in Cinci this Sunday, hardly the warm weather Philip Rivers and the Chargers are used to. I think there is more than a good chance the Chargers could choke Sunday.
So if you haven’t finished your Christmas list for Santa yet, make sure you add a Chiefs victory and a Chargers loss.
