No, the deal was for Cassel. Everyone believed the Chiefs were trading for their franchise QB. Far and wide pundits cried that Scott Pioli had just ripped off the New England Patriots. Bill Belichick had been bamboozled. Matt Cassel was the Cinderella story of the moment and now his fairy godmother Scott Pioli was going to whisk him off to Kansas City where he would at last be the face of a franchise and lead the hapless Chiefs back to prominence and respectability.

Then Matt Cassel turned in to a pumpkin.
