USC Sends A Contract To Jack Del Rio

It looks like former Chiefs coach Herman Edwards may not be heading to USC after all. Scott Wolf of the L.A. Daily News is reporting that USC has gone as far as sending Jack Del Rio a contract.

We told you yesterday that Herm Edwards was asked on 810 Sports if he had been approached about the job.

Del Rio is currently under contract with the Jacksonville Jaguars but there has been speculation that he could be fired as soon as this week. If USC did indeed send Del Rio a contract, it makes for an interesting situation according to Wolf.

Now comes the tricky part: If Del Rio takes the job, he forfeits more than $15 million in salary from the Jaguars. If Jacksonville fires him, they must pay him the money. Why would Jacksonville fire him if they know USC wants him? Should make Tuesday interesting.

Expect more coach shuffling in the next couple of days. The NFL frowns upon teams making moves over the weekend because they do not want attention diverted away from the playoff games. Teams may not want to wait another week to do their hiring and firing, so more news on these fronts could be on the way.
