LJ-Z? Chiefs RB Has Some Stuff to Say.
By Zachary Best
(Editor’s note: The “L.J. Rap” may start playing right away. Lyrics in the song are explicit, so if you don’t want to hear them scroll down a bit and pause or stop the player. Additionally, the transcribed lyrics below are really vulgar as well. If you have a problem with that sort of thing, then you might just want to skip this post.)
First, he hooked up with Jay-Z, king of Roc-a-fella Records. Then, he took it to a whole new level by flashing the “Roc” after scoring 52 touchdowns as a Chief. Then, he made an ill-advised appearance in Fantasia‘s video for her hit song “When I see you.” Now, it looks like Larry Johnson‘s non-NFL entertainment career has taken a new turn: Hip Hop.
Kansas City’s NBC Action-News 41 first reported last night that LJ recorded a song with local rap group SBL, made up of three Kansas City-based brothers, a cousin, and ex-Chief, ex-Wildcat fullback Joe Hall. The song, discovered on the group’s MySpace page, not only includes the typical I-am-rich-and-posses-many-weapons-which-require-a-license lines, but also disses, among other things, Chiefs GM Carl Peterson…
"Carl Peterson the GM’s running it /They see me. They want to treat me like I’m running it. / I won’t give a fuck, I’m not coming back. / I’d rather play for another team because I’d rather be a running back."
…and teammate Priest Holmes.
"They say should I be scared cuz 3-1 comin’ back. / He embarrassing himself."
But now it gets interesting; after the story aired on the news last night, SBL went back and posted “updated” versions of the song online… with new wording. Just overnight, LJ decided that he would “never play for another team.” I wonder why?
According to an Action-News 41 video, Johnson was at a party freestyling while a local producer recorded the lyrics. He took them home, mixed them around, “making [Johnson] say funny stuff,” and then posted the mp3 to the site. LJ vehemently denies being involved in anything, going as far of making stupid excuses:
"Reporter: “Is it possible that’s your voice and someone just later put music under it? Everyone says, that sounds like Larry Johnson.”Johnson: “Beats me, I mean with technology today, I think you could do anything.”"
The Chiefs have yet to comment on the situation.
**Update** In the hour it took me to find out about this story, research it out, and write it (during a class, might I add), the number of times the song was played today on MySpace went up from 1,711 (which is very large) to over 4,000.
**Update #2**
I had to know the lyrics to this song, but when I clicked for them on the MySpace, I was unable to get anything, so I decided to do it the long way. It took me a damn while, but here it is, fellas:
