Gavin Escobar signs 1-year deal with Kansas City Chiefs

The Kansas City Chiefs have added veteran tight end Gavin Escobar on a one-year deal in free agency.
On Friday, former Dallas Cowboys tight end Gavin Escobar visited Arrowhead Stadium as the latest free agent to spend time with the Kansas City Chiefs. John Dorsey apparently liked what he saw, because he soon offered Escobar a one-year deal to sign with the team.
Escobar was a former second round pick from the 2013 NFL Draft by the Cowboys, but failed to ever become the pass-catching replacement for Jason Witten on the team’s offense. In fact, they recently extended Witten despite the fact he’s in his mid-thirties. Escobar’s inability to block kept him on the bench in Dallas.
For the Chiefs, Escobar likely brings in another option to observe this offseason while Travis Kelce recovers from offseason shoulder surgery and further details come in about Demetrius Harris’s arrest. Escobar is also a nice buy-low option for Dorsey for a player who was once a top 50 pick not so long ago.
Escobar has 30 career receptions in four seasons with the Cowboys.
