The latest mock draft is out from Charley Casserly and he has the quarterback of the future falling right to the Chiefs.

Charley Casserly recently put up his second mock draft of the NFL offseason at the league’s website, and fans of the Kansas City Chiefs will like what they see. Deshaun Watson, quarterback for the Clemson Tigers, fell all the way to No. 27 in Casserly’s mock, giving the Chiefs their long-term investment at quarterback — and their only first-round quarterback selection since Todd Blackledge back in ’83.

Watson not only comes with significant on-field production, great game experience and the prototypical strengths a team would want from their franchise quarterback, but he also comes with incredible leadership ability. Watson’s intangibles were the talk of the recent NFL Combine, and yet they’re not a compensation for his his actual physical ability. In other words, for a player like Tim Tebow, intangibles were often used to praise him as a player even as he little pro potential, per most scouts. For Watson, it’s a bonus atop the production for such strong character and leadership to be in place.

Watson would be able to sit for a full season with the Chiefs while learning Andy Reid’s complex offensive system. Alex Smith is entrenched as the Chiefs starter and has received the endorsement of everyone heading into the 2017 season. From his salary to his experience, fans should expect Smith to remain the starter for the next 16 games. After that, however, is anyone’s guess, fully depending on how a prospect like Watson develops, should they indeed pick him.

Watson threw 41 touchdowns last season for Clemson along with 17 interceptions and finished with a career completion percentage of 67 percent. Watson also ran for 629 yards and 9 touchdowns in 2016.
