The rumors were swirling two weeks ago that the Kansas City Chiefs were on a shortlist of places Tony Romo wanted to play. On Tuesday, that desire was reiterated.
Tony Romo had four preferred destinations identified in recent weeks as the reality that the Dallas Cowboys were going to either trade or release him set in. It’s unknown just how the Cowboys will move on from Romo, or when for that matter, but Romo’s desire remains intact with the most recent rumor from Ed Werder that keeps the Chiefs on the veteran’s wish list.
The Chiefs have been very public in their support for incumbent starter Alex Smith, and the support has come from John Dorsey, Andy Reid and Clark Hunt. It would be very surprising to see the Chiefs make any move for Romo after being so positive about their current starter, so it’s unlikely that any sort of move is made. However, this hasn’t stopped Romo from keeping the Chiefs on his list.
The Texans and Broncos are both apparently open to a new starter under center for the 2017 season, and both teams are playoff-ready with stout defenses and some intriguing playmakers on offense. Surely, Romo would love having Will Fuller and DeAndre Hopkins to throw to in Houston or Demaryius Thomas and Emmanuel Sanders in Denver. Of course, the Chiefs offer Tyreek Hill, Jeremy Maclin and Travis Kelce.
Until Dallas makes an official move so Romo can find a new home, the Chiefs are likely to be roped in to such reports about Romo’s future, despite anything they have to say on the matter.
