The Kansas City Chiefs will interview RB draft prospect Elijah McGuire on Thursday night at the NFL Combine.

The Kansas City Chiefs are kicking the tires on running back prospects at the 2017 NFL Combine as they look ahead to the draft and potential ways to strengthen the running game. Elijah McGuire, a running back out of Louisiana-Lafayette, said the Chiefs have scheduled a meeting with him on Thursday night.

McGuire comes with plenty of experience as a near-four year starter for the Ragin’ Cajuns. Last year, he carried the ball 232 times for 1,127 yards and 7 touchdowns. He has a career rushing average of 6.1 yards/carry, although that number declined every single year as McGuire dealt with a foot injury. He finished his career with 42 rushing touchdowns and another 10 touchdown receptions. CBS Sports compares McGuire to Kenneth Dixon.

The Chiefs are looking for a back to put in tandem with Spencer Ware. After the mediocre year from Charcandrick West and the release of Jamaal Charles, the team has a serious need at running back. They also recently signed veteran C.J. Spiller.

McGuire at this point is likely a Day 3 pick, but profiles well as a special teamer and injury risk who could come cheaper than he should if he’d been healthy. That could be a nice late-round snag for Dorsey.
