Branden Albert could be traded instead of released by Dolphins

The Miami Dolphins were reportedly set to release offensive tackle Branden Albert, but rumors are swirling they might trade the former Chiefs player instead.

The initial reports said that the Miami Dolphins were ready to move on from Branden Albert after a three-year stint as their starting left tackle. While his exit is still likely, they might actually get something in return.

Moving away from early reports of his release, the current rumor is that the Dolphins are now reportedly trading Albert instead. Apparently at least one team was very interested in acquiring Albert and willing to pay for the chance to not face off against other suitors on the open market.

It should be noted that any team trading for Albert will inherit what’s left of his initial five-year deal with the Dolphins, which comes out to $18.45 million over two years. Albert has been plagued by injuries the last few years in Miami and will turn 33-years-old during the 2017 season, but he’s still a solid starter, which makes that price tag pretty palatable. Then again, it’s possible the new team is able to rework Albert’s deal in the process.

Albert has started only 35 games the last three seasons for Miami after signing a big money deal in free agency. He came over from Kansas City after spending his first six seasons with the Chiefs.
