The Chiefs’ John Dorsey spoke to the media on Thursday and provided several updates on contracts and injuries.

When asked for an update on Justin Houston, specifically on whether he may need additional medical intervention, Dorsey replied with a simple an unequivocal “no”. While Houston wasn’t able to get back to 100% in 2016, the offseason should have him ready to go by OTAs.

Jamaal Charles is a large question this offseason. When asked about Charles, Dorsey replied, “He’s working like the dickens to get himself ready for ’17. We’ll see what happens in Mar. but right now I see him as a Chief”. The process for determining the future of Jamaal Charles will hinge on his injury and likely what’s the happened with other players contracts.

As for the future of Dorsey himself, the general manager reinforced his desire to remain in Kansas City for the foreseeable future, stating “I can tell you this from my family’s perspective and mine – both professionally and personally – this has been the greatest four years of my life. I love this city. I love this team. I love this community. I think this is one of the most stable franchises in the National Football League.”

Dorsey is confident in his ability this sign the team’s free agents going into the 2017 off-season.

Dorsey referred to discussions with representatives of both Eric Berry and Dontari Poe as moving in a positive direction. He did not shoot down the possibility of both players returning. Whether that can become a reality or not will be interesting to watch develop.

On Friday morning, Eric Berry’s agent, Chad Speck, confirm they are talking but those short of calling it “positive”. I still see the Eric Berry contract as the lynchpin to the team’s off-season. The contract games are on.
