Report: Allen Bailey could be out for season with shoulder injury

The Kansas City Chiefs received some bad news on Tuesday night, with word breaking that defensive end Allen Bailey might be lost for the season.

Kansas City was able to hammer the Oakland Raiders on Sunday afternoon, and appeared to leave with only a few minor bumps and bruises. After the game, head coach Andy Reid said that Marcus Peters had a stinger, Phillip Gaines had his knee flare up and Allen Bailey sustained a shoulder contusion.

Apparently, that contusion is a doozy. According to Rand Getlin, the Chiefs are expecting to be without Bailey for the rest of the season with a shoulder injury. If this is indeed the case, Kansas City will likely be bringing Rakeem Nunez-Roches up from the practice squad to take Bailey’s place on the active roster.

Bailey’s starting spot would likely go to rookie Chris Jones, who has been very impressive in limited action. Frankly, it’s fair to wonder if this injury – while sad for Bailey – maybe helps the Chiefs get more of a pass rush. Jones is more of a penetrator while Bailey has long been known for his excellent play against the run. In this vein, maybe we see more of Nick Williams in run-heavy downs.

There has been no official word yet, so let’s hope for a surprise. Bailey coming back at any point in the season would be helpful to a team with serious aspirations.
