The Kansas City Chiefs have released their inactives for Week 1 of the 2016 season, and All-Pro running back Jamaal Charles is among them.

Kansas City will have both Tamba Hali and Eric Berry in the lineup come Sunday afternoon, but Jamaal Charles will be watching from the sidelines. Throughout the week, head coach Andy Reid has talked about the likelihood that Charles would be missing this contest. It’s now official.

The one shock here is De’Anthony Thomas. I think Thomas was expected to make some contribution to the team once he made the 53-man roster, but that’s not the case. He seems to be a healthy scratch, and that could spell the end sooner rather than later for the veteran.

On the flip side, Kansas City will be rolling with Demarcus Robinson, a rookie receivers who showed little in the preseason. That said, perhaps special teams coordinator Dave Toub lobbied to have Robinson on his team instead of Thomas, using his skills as a gunner.

Kansas City will be going with seven offensive linemen and only five receivers, so any injuries in those position groups are worth watching.
