Chiefs have too much talent to keep everyone
By Chris Clark
Tonight’s game against the Los Angeles Rams will be the first time the Kansas City Chiefs have played in Los Angeles since 1994.
The funny thing about that to me is that most of the Chiefs rookies would have been 1-year-old or younger at the time the Chiefs were last in L.A. Over half the roster headed into Week 2 of the preseason is a bubble player or worse. The next two games will determine whether those players get cut or if they will have a chance to catch on elsewhere.
Kansas City has several deep positions where they are going to lose players that will catch on quickly elsewhere. Among the deepest positions are ILB, defensive line, TE, QB, RB and WR. The Chiefs will likely lose one or more players from each position that will play on another team this season. While that shouldn’t be a surprise consider that four years ago none of the players cut went elsewhere. To take it a step further the Chiefs added seven players from waivers several of which are still key players today.
Check out the specific players I’ll be watching in tonight’s game.
Inside linebacker next to DJ is one of the biggest position battles on the roster. Josh Mauga injured his groin two weeks ago and since then the Chiefs have gotten a good look at Ramik Wilson and Justin March in his place. March will more than likely get his first career start tonight against the Rams. If he can hold his ground and shed blockers, Mauga may be the player released that some other team will pick up.
Next: So much depth...
