The Kansas City Chiefs should have a boatload of draft picks in 2017.

This year, there was plenty made of NFL commissioner Roger Goodell’s penalty for the Chiefs tampering with Jeremy Maclin. Kansas City lost a third-round pick and left general manager John Dorsey to move back ample times, accumulating nine picks in total.

Having high picks won’t be an issue in 2017.

According to Over The Cap, the Chiefs should receive four compensatory picks in the 2017 NFL Draft, including selections at the end of the third, fourth and sixth rounds (two in the sixth). Of course, the Chiefs are without a sixth-round selection thanks to Goodell, so in total, Dorsey has 10 picks to work with.

All told, Kansas City is loaded with ammunition. The Chiefs will have a first, second and two third-round selections. All of them will be in the top 100 unless the first compensatory selection falls just outside that barrier.

Kansas City is getting these picks because it lost multiple free agents in 2016. The Chiefs watched as Chase Daniel (cancels with Mitch Schwartz), Sean Smith (3rd), Jeff Allen (4th), Donald Stephenson (6th) and Tyvon Branch (6th) left, but will reap the rewards.

If this projection by OTC is correct, Dorsey has to be thrilled. Would you have not traded Stephenson for a sixth or Allen for a fourth? Even a third for Smith, who is 29 years old, isn’t awful.
