With the Rams having the first pick in the 2016 NFL Draft, Nick Foles time with them is closing. Could he reunite with Andy Reid?

With the blockbuster trade that happened a short time ago sending the Los Angeles Rams the top overall selection in the 2016 NFL Draft, Nick Foles time in L.A. has been cut short.

There is no doubt that the Rams, who need to build a strong fan base, will select a quarterback with the number one pick. That selection means Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid might have a little bit of interest in reacquiring him.

Drafted by Reid in the third round of the NFL draft, Foles first started a game the year he was drafted and went 1-5 as a starter. Foles best year came a year after his rookie debut where he went 8-2 as a starter, threw for 2,891 yards, 27 touchdowns and only two interceptions. He also went to his first Pro-Bowl that year.

The next two years were not kind to Foles.  First he was traded away from the Philadelphia Eagles to the then St. Louis rams for Sam Bradford. He would go 10-9 in games he started, with 20 touchdowns to 20 interceptions. He would eventually be benched for Case Keenum by Rams head coach Jeff Fisher.

Foles decline has been strange to watch. He had all the makings of a solid starter, took care of the ball, had a big arm, was in control of the game, then it all left him. His accuracy which peaked at 64 percent dropped to 56.4 percent, his touchdown percentage went from 8.5 percent in 2013 to a horrid 2.1 percent. He also posted his lowest QBR rating in 2015 with a 69.0.

What happened is unclear. Sometimes good player can have great years and then they next simply fall apart. This is where the thought of coming back to Andy Reid is intriguing. Reid liked this kid, and was evident when he drafted him. Had the Alex Smith trade not have happened; perhaps Foles would have been the started for the Chiefs.

Right now as it sits the Chiefs have quarterback Alex Smith, with backups Aaron Murray and Tyler Bray. Bray is coming off an ACL tear, and Murray has never taken a snap in a regular season game. There is a lot of uncertainty when it comes to who the backup to Smith will be in 2016. This is where Foles could come into play.

The Rams will cut him, maybe not until around week one of the regular season. Foles if cut by the Rams before June 1, would only save the team $750,000 in cap space, with $8 million in dead money. After June 1, the amount of dead money is $7 million but $1.75 million in cap savings. Of course there is always a trade opening but with a base of $1.75 million with $6M guaranteed, Reid trading for Foles does not work out. However if cut, perhaps they could sign Foles to a one-year deal with a low risk cost due to the limited cap space of the Chiefs.

Foles is an intriguing prospect for Kansas City to bring in on a low risk deal. He has the potential for sure, but he may just need the right coach and Reid knows how to coach QB’s. He also brings starter experience which is something neither of the backups currently have, as of right now. If the Rams were to cut Foles, and he would agree to take a small contract given his play, he very well could fit in with the Chiefs organization.

There you have it, Addicts. Do you think Foles could come to KC? Would you want him here? Let us know what you think in the comments.
