Eric Fisher to start against Packers

The Jah Reid Era for the Kansas City Chiefs is a thing of the past. Eric Fisher will be starting at right tackle when the Chiefs visit the Green Bay Packers on Monday Night Football, according to head coach Andy Reid. Reid spoke on Saturday to local media, stating that Fisher will finally be back on the field after sustaining a high-ankle sprain in the first preseason game of the year against the Arizona Cardinals.

Fisher will be on the right side, having lost his left tackle position to Donald Stephenson. In fairness, Stephenson has looked nothing short of terrific in that spot, something Fisher can’t say about his play throughout his career.

Fisher played right tackle as a rookie in 2013 and struggled, although he improved as the campaign wore on. Fisher then moved to left tackle after Branden Albert left for the Miami Dolphins via free agency in 2014 and started all 16 games, provided another uneven season.

Whatever your feelings are on Fisher, this is a major upgrade. Reid was getting beaten like a drum off the right side, allowing three sacks in two games. While Reid was going up against premiere pass-rushers in Von Miller and J.J. Watt, that is still a rough statistic.

Fisher will provide a little bit of veteran leadership for right guard Laurent Duvernay-Tardif, who is starting his third career game on Monday night. Fisher, the first-overall pick in 2013 out of Central Michigan, will be lined up against Julius Peppers. Peppers is going to the Hall of Fame at some point, but he is no longer a dominant player. Hopefull, Fisher can hold his own and keep Alex Smith upright.
