Few people are more excited for the Kansas City Chiefs to get back on the field in pads than defensive end Mike DeVito. The veteran lineman was injured with a torn Achilles in Week 1 against the Tennessee Titans last year, causing him to miss the entire campaign.

It was a brutal time for DeVito, who had to watch his teammates miss the playoffs by a single game. Unquestionably, DeVito had to be thinking his loss was the difference between making and missing the postseason. Of course, Kansas City was also without Pro Bowl inside linebacker Derrick Johnson, who freakishly went down with the same injury in the same game.

Last week, DeVito sat down with Pete Sweeney and B.J. Kissel of KCChiefs.com and spoke on their podcast. It was a great interview by the guys, and something you should really check out in its totality. However, if you don’t have the time, I took down a few of DeVito’s best quotes.

Initially, DeVito talked about his current state after going through such a long, tough rehab process. DeVito was able to get through all of the OTAs and minicamp without skipping any time, a great sign.

"“Great, I feel really good,” DeVito said. “That is a credit to Rick and our trainers. They really got me back to better than I was before. I know a lot of guys say that but I really feel that out there. I really feel confident running around, moving. We’re not in pads but the one thing you do get out of OTAs and minicamp is you can see how you can run, see how you can open up and test my Achilles. … This has definitely been a confidence-building offseason for me.”"
