Inactives: Chiefs, Chargers Missing Key Players

The inactives for the Kansas City Chiefs-San Diego Chargers game have been announced and there are not very many surprises.

Donnie Avery, Eric Berry, and Chris Owens are out due to injury. The biggest loss may be that of Chris Owens, who has been very solid for the Chiefs as the nickel cornerback. It is assumed rookie Phillip Gaines will take over for him as the nickel back but there is always the chance Andy Reid and Bob Sutton may have different plans. Keep in mind Gaines has less than 10 snaps this season playing on defense.

The rest of the inactives: Aaron Murray, Laurent Duvernay-Tardif, Damion Square, and Eric Kush.

San Diego is going to be missing some pieces, too. Manti Te’o and Ryan Mathews are out due to injury, so they’ll be missing some key depth and starters.

Brandon Flowers will play even though he has a groin injury. On the other side, rookie corner Jason Varrett will miss today’s game with a shoulder injury. So a hobbled Flowers and a backup on the other side. Kansas City should be able to make some plays on the edge as a result. (Fingers crossed.)

Filling out the rest of the inactives for the Chargers: Donald Brown, Ricardo Mathews, Jerry Attaochu, and Dontrelle Inman.
