Kansas City Chiefs Select De’Anthony Thomas In Fourth Round

The Kansas City Chiefs have added their first pick of day three.

With the 124th pick in the NFL Draft, the Chiefs select De’Anthony Thomas, a running back/wide receiver from Oregon.

Here is what Nolan Nawrocki’s writeup:

Has legit big-time sprinter’s speed with very quick turnover (and is field-fast). Cat-quick to the corner, accelerates very quickly and can easily take the perimter. Good vision and cutback ability — is patient and follows his blocks. Can tightrope-walk the sideline. Very quick to and through the hole once he sees a crease and can stick his foot in the dirt and go. Catches in stride with ease and can make difficult one-handed snags (see Arizona). Has home-run speed in the return game, with 3 career return TDs.

Kansas City picks 23rd overall in the fifth round later today.

    Can’t argue with speed.

    The new Dexter

  • Justin R Groth

    ? Another dex?

  • KCMikeG

DMC2. Toub gets his ST returner. I hope Reid utilizes him better than he did Dexter.

    • area

He seems to be able to keep his feet better after contact than DMC, at least vs college talent

  • area

Dude plays bigger than he is, they understated his field vision and patience, as well as his ability to turn it upfield without a loss of speed. And if you did not see his one-handed grab in the middle of the secondary vs Arizona-it’s a must see..check it out and you won’t be unimpressed.

Dakota “Bull” Dozier in round #5 please.

  • Pealvin

I dig it! Got our return man!!! He is gonna get snaps outta the back field too. Screen plays and reverses! I love this draft!!!

Bleacher Report says “One of the most electrifying playmakers in college football over the past three seasons.”

    • berttheclock

Sports Illustrated in 2012 called him a TD waiting to happen.

  • Auburn78

More potential than Dex. Just as quick but softer hands. Only possible dig in him is he sometimes will go down when he could fight for that extra yard. Course at his size…. May not be smart to fight for them. Should be our next slot wr honestly with Avery staying on the outside. Though I’d rather move on and sink or swim with Jenkins. I think Jenkins has all the skills and if on the field will start to reach his potential.

  • KCMikeG

The Black Mamba will strike fear into the hearts of our competitors!

  • Tyler Alexander

Put him in the slot and run QB options with Charles in the backfield and Thomas running a reverse. Hard to defend… we may use the pistol a lot more this year.

  • DoubleD

Playmaker. Can never have too many of those. Dex’s replacement but without costing us a 2nd round pick.
    Solid choice.

  • Anthony Rivera

hope you kc fans enjoy our Oregon boy hell sure be miss here

Native Oragonian here and watched DAT every week as a die hard Duck fan. I’m welcoming him with open arms for sure because he’s a total pimp! This kid is a freak of nature with speed and vision. He will be feared and respected every time he gets a chance at touching the ball.

      • Anthony Rivera

im happy he got picked by team that will utilize him and his speed KC is a Good fit for him

        • Daniel Mayfield

Refraze that…a Great team for him. lol
He looks like he’d be better then Dexter, though he is missed, just in a picture….looks stronger. Anyway….my question is, would he be good for deep/long passes?

    • berttheclock

Funny thing is for over two months I kept touting Brandin Cooks from OSU and there was a heap of blue smioke rising near my TV when the Saints took him, but, I love the pickup of DAT. A couple of hours ago, I was in a New Seasons Market store in Portland wearing my Chiefs visor and several Ducks called out to me about us selecting DAT.

  • Call 911

We gotta rememeber DAT isn’t the answer too our WR problems. He’s just the best offensive player available this year. I know DeAnthony and he will make a huge impact in the NFL.By the look of the draft the Chiefs will be out of cap hell and get back into position at picking up A Smith’s contract and addressing a powerful WR next year.

This is a 3-4 year process and we’re on the right track.

  • Randall Miller

I am speechless, what a player…The Mamba will win 2 games for us this year minimum..this draft is top notch!

  • Auburn78

If Skov is still sitting there at our 5th round pick….I would nab him.

  • Blaize Richardson

Great pick-up. We let Dex walk after being overpayed by Tennessee and now we pick-up his replacement on a much cheaper contract and with a lot more potential. I’m all on board the Dorsey/Reid war wagon!

  • sidibeke

    Love the KR/RB depth.

  • Stacy D. Smith

His highlight reels are insane. He’s a burner with great field vision. He also takes GREAT angles to create space for himself. He’s masterful in the open field. Dave Toub has to be swooning over this pick.

    • sidibeke

      Toub’s new toy.
