Tight Ends

Troy Niklas – Tight End – Notre Dame

Troy Niklas (6’6 ½ – 270) is the tallest tight end prospect in this year’s draft but also one of the most athletic. He did not run a 40 yard dash but did participate in the bench press, vertical jump, broad jump, and field drills. If Niklas runs a good 40 on his pro-day, he could potentially thrust himself into second round consideration. He has ideal size and is a natural red-zone threat. The knock on Niklas is that he could use some work on his blocking techniques and needs to work on his initial burst off the line. Look for Niklas to make noise in the NFL in the next few years.

Jace Amaro – Tight End – Texas Tech

Jace Amaro (6’5 – 265) did not do himself any favors at the NFL Combine. Not only did he not impress with his 4.74 40 yard dash but he looked extremely shaky during field drills. He had suspect route running and dropped some passes. He may be able to make up some ground at his pro-day but Amaro very well could have worked himself out of first round consideration. You can’t teach his size and ability to catch the ball at its’ highest point, but it seems like he may have been drinking a little bit of his own kool-aid and not worked out as hard as he should have.
