NFL Trade Deadline 2013: Chiefs ‘Keeping An Eye’ On Tony Gonzalez

The Kansas City Chiefs are reportedly keeping an eye on Tony Gonzalez, as the NFL trade deadline approaches.

There are rumors swirling all over the NFL today as the trade deadline is just about an hour away. Ian Rapoport of NFL.com has already reported that Gonzalez won’t be traded.

It is hard to know what to believe and we likely won’t find anything out for sure until the last minute.

The fact of the matter is, if the Atlanta Falcons get any kind of offer from Gonzalez and Gonzalez wants to go, there is absolutely no reason for them not to take it. Tony Gonzalez is not part of Atlanta’s future. The team is not going to make the playoffs and they have serious problems on the defensive side of the football. Dealing Gonzo would do nothing except give the Falcons more ammunition to reload with this offseason.

For Gonzo, this is one last chance to make a run at a championship. Returning to Kansas City makes sense for numerous reasons. At the very least, Gonzalez would get to finish his career where it started and retire a Chief. He would also get to go out on a team fighting to get to the Super Bowl.

If the Chiefs are willing to make a deal and Gonzalez really does want to return to KC, there is absolutely no reason for the Falcons not to make that happen.

If Cole’s report is correct, I think Gonzo will be a Chief by the end of the day.

But that is a very big “if.”
